The sakura in the courtyard of the majestic Uzhgorod castle has bloomed! Therefore, the territory of the fortress can safely be named as one of the best photozones of Uzhgorod.
The Transcarpathian Local History Museum report about the "exhibit of April" and invite tourists to visit, "luring" them with photographs. And they tell about this attraction of Uzhgorod in detail:
According to the official version, during the Czechoslovak period of the history of Transcarpathia (1919-1938), the large-scale development of Uzhgorod began, transforming it from a provincial town into a regional, administrative center. To this end, a new neighborhood Galagov was built on the right bank of the Uzh, where administrative and governmental buildings were to be located. It was in this neighborhood where new exotic species of trees and shrubs, including sakuras, were planted. As it turned out, the soft, warm and rather humid climate of Uzhgorod was favourable for the exotic plants. The successful introduction paved the way for the massive planting of sakuras in the cities of the region.
"Sakura also grows in the courtyard of the Uzhgorod castle. Young Japanese cherry trees were planted by the museum’s employees in the mid-1980s. And the youngest sakura of our museum was planted in 2009", – the museum invites to see this beauty, and remind that it is open every day from 10.00 to 18.00.
