The official position of the Ministry of Internal Affairs regarding the mass protests of owners of cars with foreign registration is posted on the official page of the Ministry on Facebook.
Today, November 25, new legislative norms concerning the legalization of cars with European registration imported in violation of customs and tax legislation entered into force. In addition to a partial resolution of this issue, the new rules also affected the drivers of cars – residents of border regions that would legally cross the state border for a short period.
Due to unclear new customs procedures, numerous queues have been formed at the state border.
To resolve the current situation, the following steps were taken by the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Ukraine:
1. For the purpose of ensuring public safety and preventing provocations, the National Police Operational Headquarters was formed. Law enforcers will provide the protesters all necessary assistance.
2. At the initiative of the Ministry of Internal Affairs, a working group was established to regulate legislative norms and to unblock traffic at checkpoints. It includes the First Deputy Minister of Internal Affairs Serhiy Yarovyi, the head of the National Police Serhiy Knyazev, the head of the State Border Guard Service Petro Tsyhykal, the head of the Main Service Center of the Ministry of Internal Affairs Vladislav Krykliy, the acting head of the State Fiscal Service of Ukraine Oleksandr Vlasov. The first meeting will be held on Monday, November 26, at 10:00.
3. Security at the border has been tightened. In particular, situational groups have been established, additional forces are ready for action.
The Ministry of Internal Affairs asks the car owners, who became affected by the temporarily unresolved legislative situation, not to resort to radical actions."
Recall that in Uzhgorod protesters sre burning the tires in front of the main administrative building of the region.
