On Thursday, April 5, the Minister of Infrastructure Volodymyr Omelyan visited three Transcarpathian cities in order to determine the prospects for the development of regional airports and inspect the state of roads of international and local significance. This was reported by the press service of the Regional Council of Transcarpathia.
At Uzhgorod airport, which became the last stop of Mr. Minister, he was met by the head of the Transcarpathian Regional State Administration Hennadiy Moskal, the head of the commission on business development, industrial infrastructure, banking and investments – deputy of the regional council Andriy Andriyiv, the deputy mayor of Uzhgorod Igor Fartushok and other government officials.
– The President of Ukraine set a clear task – have the airport "Uzhgorod" fully operational by the end of 2018. At the moment, the UkSATSE is making every effort to ensure that the airport has modern and safe equipment. Uzhgorod Airport must be ready for winter navigation from the autumn of 2018 to winter of 2019. We hope that there will be a professional airport team here. Well, of course, the support from the regional authorities is necessary, – Volodymyr Omelyan said.
In turn, Hennadiy Moskal told that over the past two and a half years at the expense of the regional budget, the terminal at Uzhgorod airport has been upgraded, a special fence has been installed along the perimeter, and the runway has been expanded and now can receive Boeing or Airbus class aircrafts.
Answering the journalists’ questions about the prospect of developing the road infrastructure of the region, the Minister stressed that the most important thing for the region is the repair of the Kyiv-Chop highway: "Currently, the repair of the Kyiv-Chop road is a priority for Transcarpathian region. This year, more than UAH 430 million will be allocated for its repair."
Recall that the situation with the Uzhgorod airport so far has been notorious only for promises…
