The Minister of Foreign Affairs of Hungary Péter Szijjártó will visit Uzhgorod today

He will come to the regional center after the negotiaions with representatives of nine countries in Warsaw, – the Holos Karpat reports referring to the Hungarian Telegraph Agency.

The purpose of the visit is to personally discuss and agree with the heads of the KMKS and the governor of the region Hennadiy Moskal the situation in connection with the adoption of the Law "On Education" in Ukraine.

Péter Szijjártó has repeatedly stressed that he considers changes in the new law "shameful and unacceptable."   In his view, the study of the Ukrainian language should be ensured in such a way that does not narrow the existing rights of national minorities.

In Uzhgorod, Péter Szijjártó plans to talk with the stakeholders the steps already taken in this matter and to discuss what specific decisions should yet be taken by the Hungarian government in the interests of the Hungarians of Transcarpathia.

"In Ukraine, Hungarians are in the minority, but they are not alone – the Hungarian government will always support them, the narrowing of the existing rights of national minorities is unacceptable," – the minister said. – The gap between the two sides’ positions can only be removed if Ukraine returns the national minorities their lawful rights. In this case, Ukraine can count on the support of Hungary, but not until then."
