The mayors of Uzhgorod and Lviv agreed to work closely

The Acting Mayor of Uzhgorod Victor Shchadey met with the mayor of Lviv and the vice-president of the Association of Cities of Ukraine Andriy Sadovy, who is on a visit to Uzhgorod. The city heads agreed to work closely on a number of issues. Specifically, Andriy Sadovy promised maximum assistance to Uzhgorod in establishing cooperation with the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development, "We have very good experience with the EBRD. Despite the crisis, in Lviv, we are actively repairing roads, heat and water supply systems. It’s not only a lot of money for the city, but also European standards of work and major grants. I want Uzhgorod to have such opportunities too. Our cities have to set the European tone for the entire country, to be an example to other Ukrainian cities," – the mayor of Lviv said.

According to the Acting Mayor of Uzhgorod Victor Shchadey, this cooperation will bring Uzhgorod great benefit: "Roads and water are two serious problems for our city. We see how these issues are solved in Lviv. And in general, Lviv is a model for other cities in Ukraine in terms of improvement and management. So I’m glad the mayor of Lviv is willing to help us establish appropriate contacts with the European Bank and to share his experience."

The mayors also discussed the situation in Ukraine. "The country is at war. Maybe here, in the West, we feel it less, but the war is on the doorstep. Saboteurs work in our cities.  It is important that everyone stick together. No panic, no demoralizing sentiments should be allowed. Eyes of the whole country are set on Lviv, Uzhgorod. Local governments in these cities must become centers of self-organization" – Andriy Sadovy said.
