On October 14, on the Day of the Defender of Ukraine in Uzhgorod, a solemn event was traditionally held on the "Hill of Glory" in front of the Memorial to the soldiers who gave their lives for the sovereignty and territorial integrity of Ukraine.
The leadership of the Transcarpathian Customs of the State Customs Service and the trade union together with the ATO veterans, the public, servicemen of the Armed Forces, heads of regional state administrations, regional councils and other state bodies and local governments observed a moment of silence in honor of the soldiers who died for freedom and independence of Ukraine.
After bringing a basket of flowers to the Memorial, the participants of the event laid flowers on the graves of Transcarpathian soldiers who died in the area of anti-terrorist operation in the east of the country.
One of the heroes is a former customs officer, intelligence major, active public figure Vitaliy Postolaki. The brave commander of the reconnaissance unit of the 128th Mountain Infantry Brigade was killed during the battles for Debaltseve. Now, a monument to fallen soldiers has been erected in the regional center at the initiative of the public and a square has been renamed in honor of Vitaliy Postolaki. Another fallen hero is Dmytro Vlasov, a young serviceman and the son of a customs officer Victoria Vlasova. The customs staff honor the memory of all fallen defenders of Ukraine.
