“The Last Page of the Year”

"The Last Page of the Year" is a good tradition to meet on the eve of the New Year, talk about new books and read new works. Especially since 2017 was very eventful. Vasyl Husti, the head of the Transcarpathian organization of the National Union of Writers of Ukraine, told about the activities of the Union and new publications. With the assistance of the regional authorities, 16 books were published for the budget funds, more than half of them are by Transcarpathian writers.

The writers also visited the Shevchenko alley, which they had planted with foresters in the Uzhgorod forestry. On Shevchenko’s days, they met with students and schoolchildren.

Transcarpathian were aso visited by writers and colleagues from Presov. At the invitation of the Union of Ukrainians, on the Independence Day, the regional writers visited Bucharest, where they discussed the draft agreement on creative cooperation that they intend to sign during the festival "Carpathian Vatra" next year. Writers from Podkarpackie Voivodship of Poland also visited Transcarpathia.

Another good event – finally, the long-awaited almanac "Seven Steep Passes" was published for the budget funds. It contains not only the works of regional writers, but also a lot of photos.

Some awards were also presented. Thus, the chairman of the Assembly of Public Councils, Fedir Kharuta, presented the Honorary Award of the 1 degree "Honored Public Figure of Transcarpathia" to writer and scholar Serhiy Fedaka. Literary scholar Oleksandra Ignatovich for her fruitful work was awarded with the Honorary Diploma of the Regional Council.  And at the last session of the Regional Council, a member of the National Union of Writers of Ukraine, Hungarian-speaking writer Oleksandr Horvat received the award of the Regional Council and the Transcarpathian Regional State Administration "For the development of the region".
