The police have filed criminal charges against two dozen bribe-taking officials of various levels and ranks.
Transcarpathian police stepped up the fight against this shameful phenomenon of corruption, which undermines the authority of the state, public confidence in social justice.
According to the Head of the State Service for Combating Economic Crimes of the regional MIA Office, police colonel Ivan Penyak, during 8 months in 2014, 31 criminal proceedings have been registered which have elements of crimes under Art.368, 369 and 3683 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine (obtaining undue advantage ).
Law enforcement officers caught 18 people, extorting and receiving illegal benefits.
The average amount of undue advantage received by one Transcarpathian official is 25,400 UAH. The largest received bribe recorded this year by the police amounts to 400,000 UAH. The total amount of received undue advantage in solved crimes is more than 458,000 UAH.
Among the exposed bribe-takers, there are customs and government officials, officials of regulatory authorities, educators, doctors and so on.
According to the analysis conducted by law enforcement agencies, in our region, the cities of Uzhgorod and Mukachevo, as well as Uzhgorod, Beregovo, Vynogradiv and Tyachiv districts are the most affected by bribery and corruption.
