Today, Russia cancels passenger transportation to Ukraine. According to the plans of the Russian carrier – the Russian Railways – the transportation will resume in one year. And only if it is profitable for the carrier to provide transportation in this direction. The official reason for cancellations of trains is very low profitability of routes. In addition to Ukraine, the Russian Railways cancel trains to Azerbaijan, Kazakhstan and Tajikistan. But, they plan to keep the routes in order to quickly resume the transportation if necessary.
Thus, as of December 14, the train "Uzhgorod-Moscow", that has been running for more than 20 years, is canceled.
Instead, the "UZ" states that railway communication with Russia will not be cancelled.
This was announced by the head of the department of long distance passenger transportation Igor Breus, the press service of the "UZ" informed.
According to him, in winter, 20 trains will be running between Ukraine and Russia, including 19 Ukrainian and 1 Russian.
Breus said that on December 14, the Russian Railways would cancel only four trains that were running on the territory of Ukraine:
№ 59/60 Moscow – Sofia
№ 15/16 Moscow – Budapest
№ 33/34 Moscow – Odessa;
№ 2/1 Kyiv – Moscow, which will run every other day and will be formed by the South Western Railway.
"The existing trains between cities of Russia and Ukraine will be sufficient to meet the needs of the population, as the current availability exceeds the demand," – Breus said.
