The Mayor of Beregovo Zoltan Babiak is concerned that the multinational city of Beregovo and its inhabitants are depicted in a negative light through the prism of separatism, ethnic conflict, etc., the Depo.Zakarpattya informs.
In this regard, he released a statement on mutual understanding and national unity.
"I want to assure that this "image", which is formed in the media, is not true to facts," – Babiak said. He stressed that the residents of Beregovo, the inhabitants of the multinational Transcarpathia, who form an active part of Ukrainian society, can not tolerate ethnonational speculation of the enemies, who attempt to artificially create the appearance of a confrontation between the Ukrainians and the Hungarian minority.
"We want our tourist city to be recognizable, but from the positive perspective, we want to see the news about the completion of the bypass road construction, the construction of a water park, the economic and social success of our community, and so on. We are interested in overcoming the problems of mass departure of citizens to work abroad, and thus the loss of able-bodied workforce. This is what matters to us", – the mayor emphasizes.
Babiak assured that the residents of Beregovo would not tolerate any further provocations and destabilization of the situation. "Once again, I emphasize: there is no and there can be no inter-ethnic confrontation," – the Mayor of Beregovo added.
