Representatives of the Embassy of the Republic of Latvia in Ukraine paid an official visit to Uzhgorod today.
The delegation consisting of the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Latvia to Ukraine Juris Poikans, the Head of the Group for Interparliamentary Cooperation with Ukraine Aldim Adamovichs, representative of the Latvian Agency for Investments and Development in Ukraine Ainars Mejulis and the third secretary of the Embassy of the Republic of Latvia in Ukraine Edvins Severs was welcomed by the Mayor Bohdan Andriyiv. Yuri Ignatko, the Honorary Consul of the Republic of Latvia in Uzhgorod, also took part in the meeting.
The head of the Group for Interparliamentary Cooperation with Ukraine at the Seim of the Republic of Latvia Aldis Adamovichs assured in friendly relations with Ukraine, the willingness to continue to assist in countering the Russian aggression.
The Mayor Bohdan Andriyiv thanked the representatives of Latvia for the great support of Ukraine.
According to the Uzhgorod City Council, during the conversation, they discussed the issues of development of the transport infrastructure of Uzhgorod and the region, promotion of tourism, problems of labor migration. Comparisons with Latvia – before and after joining the European Union – were made.
The parties expressed a desire to establish and develop cooperation in the fields of sports, culture, tourism, economy. Bohdan Andriyiv suggested to promote the potential twinning of Uzhgorod with one of the Latvian cities. Representatives of the Latvian delegation said they hoped for joint projects in the future.
After the meeting at the City Council, the Honorary Consulate of the Republic of Latvia in Transcarpathia was opened at Pravoslavna embankment, 7, near the Consulate General of the Republic of Hungary in Uzhgorod.
