During the four days, 6 new Ukrainian films will be screened there, including "Cyborgs", cartoon "The Stolen Princess" and the first Ukrainian fantasy "Watchtower".
This was stated by Anastasia Pugach, spokeswoman of the "Molodist" film festival, in a comment to the correspondent of the Ukrinform.
"The festival Ukrainian Cinema Days was conceived last year, this year it was decided to hold it in two towns of the country – Beregovo and Storozhynets. We chose those towns where there are no cinemas. This is in fact a big problem, since in Ukraine there are only 500 halls and less than 200 cinemas. This is an extremely small number, which does not cover even half the country’s population. Most residents of small towns need to travel tens of kilometers to watch a movie in a cinema," – Pugach said.
According to her, the agreement with the city authorities of Beregovo about holding the fest was made back in the summer. The city authorities undertook to provide premises, organize an advertising campaign for the festival. The organizers, for their part, brought professional sound, screen and light.
According to Pugach, if they complete the tender procedures, by the end of the year such festivals are planned to be held in at least 10 towns of the country. If the project continues, the program will change – because nowadays a new Ukrainian film is released almost every week.
The project "Days of Ukrainian Cinema" was implemented by the "Molodist" film festival with the support of the Ministry of Information Policy of Ukraine.
The ministry hopes that next year they will expand the geography, the number of cities and the number of films. Anad also that this fest encourages local authorities in small towns to build a network of movie theaters where Ukrainians could watch new Ukrainian films.
