Yesterday, April 25, in the University of Nyiregyhaza (Hungary), the department of the Ukrainian language and culture, which will operate within the Institute of Slavic Studies, was solemnly opened.
According to the representative of the Government of Hungary Istvan Hrezha, who attended the event, the opening of the department was initiated personally by the Prime Minister Viktor Orban. "Since the Hungarian language is taught in Ukraine, Ukrainian also has to be taught in Hungary," – I.Hrezha said in his speech.
The department already has the head – PhD Victoria Shtefutsa, who was born in Transcarpathia, in the city of Khust, and moved to Hungary as a child. The main objectives of the newly established structural unit of the university are scientific research, teaching students, literary translation of Hungarian and Ukrainian literature, development and deepening of bilingual ties.
