On Sunday (24.07), the Days of Neighbourliness berween Ukraine and Romania were celebrated in the Romanian border town of Sighetu Marmatiei (Maramures county). For the first time, this international festival was held there in 2002, on the initiative of the then head of the Transcarpathian Regional State Administration Hennadiy Moskal, after which it did not take place for 14 years. H.Moskal also initiated the revival of the festival this time. Last October, the Days of Neighborliness between Ukraine and Romania (in Rakhiv and Tyachiv districts on the Ukrainian side and Maramures county in Romania) were celebrated in the Transcarpathian village of Bila Tserkva. This festival was a symbolic response from Maramures.
The official part began on the bridge across the Tisa River, which connects the two countries, and then the festival moved to the Ethnographic Open Air Museum. Despite the heat, the Days of Neighbourliness were attended by a lot of people. There were performances of folklore groups from border areas, exhibition-sale of souvenirs, national cuisine dishes and more.
Transcarpathian delegation at the festival was represented by the regional officials Hennadiy Moskal and Mykhailo Rivis, heads of district state administrations, the Mayor of Khust, heads of law enforcement and controlling bodies, folklore groups, folk artists.
The next year, the Days of Neighborliness beetween Ukraine and Romania in Maramures county and border areas of Transcarpathia will be held on the Ukrainian side.
