Her name is Mina and she’s perhaps the best hunter at the holiday. The 8-year-old "Russian" hound has caught even a wolf, and in general is the champion of various exhibitions and the mother of future champions.
The best representative of the breed – both trained and with character.
Alan is only 3.5 years old. There are are only seven such springer spaniels in Ukraine – the owner of the noble English dog Ludwig Potish says. The dog shows not only the beauty of the breed, but also a great intelligence.
The head of the Transcarpathian branch of the National Society of Hunters and Fishermen, a professional biologist, says: there are no "universal dogs" for hunting. His Alan, for example, is a dog for bird hunting, and it was him, probably, that brought Mr. Ludwig an honorary badge with a woodcock.
The hard-haired fox terrier works in burrows, in particular, hunts for foxes, as well as his friend hunt terrier, which, however, can also catch hares and even waterfowl, and husky Frida – these dogs are even used to hunt for bears.
Mr. Imre Kergey came here from Hungary without dogs. One of the leaders of the Union of Hungarian Hunters and Travelers says that such holidays are popular in his country, and it is because they develop the traditions of the true hunting, according to the canons of the profession. In general, at the first Day of the Hunter in Transcarpathia, which took place on the territory of the Vynogradiv Forestry (near the village of Shalanky), they were demonstrating hunting dogs and numerous trophies (deer and elk antlers), including the remains of exotic animals (in particular, from Africa, for example, antelope and warthog).
They also showed hunting attributes (from feeding nets to observation towers), demonstrated skills in cooking of meat dishes, discussed topics related to forestry, such as beekeeping, carving, and, of course, taxidermy.
In general, the organizers of the Day of the Hunter (regional foresters) did a good job on the holiday. And the culmination of the event was a ritual "burning of a poacher", because, as declared by those, who arranged the holiday, its purpose is to promote true hunting, which, in spite of everything, remains a traditional craft and hobby for Transcarpathia.
