September 30 is the National Day of Libraries. In Transcarpathia, almost five hundred libraries celebrated this holiday. They all differ in the size of funds, number of employees and users, but they have a common purpose – to meet informational, spiritual and aesthetic needs of all their visitors, the Department of Culture of the Transcarpathian Regional State Administration informs.
Each library in the region on that day had their own celebrations. Unconditional champions are the Transcarpathian Regional Universal Scientific Library and the Transcarpathian Regional Library for Children and Youth, which launched a series of celebrations, educational, promotional, artistic and entertainment events as early as at the beginning of the week.
On this day, along with official greetings, many kind words were addressed to librarians from those, who work directly with books – publishers and writers. The director of the state publishing house "Karpaty" Victor Braslavets, writers Vasyl Husti and Oleksandr Havrosh presented the Regional Universal Scientific Library ponderous book packages.
In turn, the director of the library Olena Kanyuka thanked veteran librarians, who were present at the celebration. At the same time, she noted that every year, talented young professionals join the staff, thus considerably increasing the prestige of the profession and giving hope: not despite, but even because of technical progress, the institute of libraries today reaches a new level, performing not just a modest role of a "place for book-crossing", but becoming a real center of information and cultural life of the community, providing a range of relevant services and performing extremely important educational and social tasks.
At the end of the festive day, presentations of books, creative workshops, themed flash mobs and other events took place in the two regional libraries.
