Today, Uzhgorod City and District Court held a meeting in the case of a 49-year-old Uzhgorod resident Pavlo M. A former deputy of Uzhgorod city council is accused of obstruction of journalistic activities (Art.171, Part 1 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine). The court imposed on him a pre-trial restraint in the form of bail in amount of 24,000 UAH.
Recall that in early September in the center of Uzhgorod, an incident occurred near the notorious store "Korzo". The shop premises was the subject of the long dispute between the staff and 49-year-old businessman and former city council deputy Pavlo M. The parties alternately win court trials, but the final owner of the premises has not yet been determined.
Pavlo M. is accused that he obstructed journalists of the "M-Studio" TV channel, who were covering the conflict regarding the store "Korzo". According to the journalists, the attacker damaged their camera.
After the journalists’ appeal to the police, criminal proceeding on Art.171, Part 1 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine (Obstruction of legitimate professional activities of journalists) was initiated. The sanction of the article provides for a fine, arrest for up to six months or restriction of freedom for up to three years.
The investigation department of the Transcarpathian police is investigating the case. Pavlo M. recently was notified of being suspected of committing the offense.
Today Uzhgorod City and District Court imposed on him a pre-trial restraint in the form of a bail in amount of 24,000 UAH.
The investigation continues.
