The chief road service official of the region: financing is catastrophic

This year, the Road Service of Transcarpathia received from the state budget UAH 70.7 million for current road maintenance. UAH 55.9 million of which has been spent on the roads of national importance, UAH 14.8 million – on local roads. This was announced by the head of the service Mykhailo Popovich on Tuesday, October 13, during the press conference.

Transcarpathia also received UAH 19.8 million from the state budget program "Development of roads in the regions of the Ukrainian part of the Carpathian Euroregion." The funds were spent on the current repair of the road of national importance Mukachevo – Rakhiv – Bohorodchany – Ivano-Frankivsk – Rohatyn – Lviv.

"Recently, in some communities in Transcarpathia, social tension has been increasing – people resort to road blocking demanding repair of a road. The main reason for this situation is lack of funds for maintenance. Funding for the road sector this year is not minimal, it is catastrophic, – Mykhailo Popovich said and cited some figures. In 2008, the Road Service of Transcarpathia received UAH 220 million the repair and maintenance of roads. This year – UAH 100 million. And prices have increased several times.

This year, communities received UAH 162 million for the repair of communal roads and local public roads within settlements. Therefore, the local authorities can solve the urgent problems with roads themselves.

Currently, road builders of the region are preparing for winter: repairing old equipment, replenishing stocks of salt.               Restocking salt remains problematic as the regional road company owes the "Artemsil" company UAH 840 thousand for the last year’s delivery.
