After today’s session of the Transcarpathian Regional Council, its Chairman Ivan Baloha commented on the heated debate on the voting only with the cards of the members present at the meeting:
It’s no secret that in our session hall until now there have been cases where one member voted instead of the other. It was almost the norm, as in other councils. But as the society has raised this issue at the highest legislative level, the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine, I believe that the deputies of the region should take an example from the parliament and only the deputies present at the session hall should vote. This proposal today was not objected by opposition factions, but only the Party of Regions was against it – surely they wanted to vote instead of their absent colleagues. However, in the end, the session was conducted without voting instead of those who did not attend the meeting.
