The campaign “City without Polyethylene” starts in Uzhgorod today

Environmental campaigns "Days of Energy" and "City without Polyethylene" have been launched today.

According to ecologists, every human uses about three hundred different bags per year. Polyethylene decomposes for more than a hundred years.

Plastic bottles, diapers, aluminum containers decompose for about 500 years. Rubber – for one hundred years. Paper, cardboard boxes – for a year or two.

Also, during combustion, plastic releases toxic substances.

Some of the bags after the purchase are thrown immediately, the rest – after a while. Plastic bags eventually become non-decomposing waste and are dangerous. The amount of waste polyethylene on the planet is growing rapidly, contaminating the environment and affecting our health. A quarter of the water surface is covered with plastic waste. Millions of seabirds and mammals, small turtles and large whales and seals die because of polyethylene. Meanwhile, more than a trillion of such bags are produced annually in the world.

Uzhgorod city council announces the campaigns.
From June 18 to June 21, days of sustainable energy will be held in Uzhgorod.
Currently, 4 supermarkets and shopping centers have joined the cmapaign "City without Polyethylene", namely "Uzhgorod P.S.Yu." Ltd. (Vopak), "Dastor Uzhgorod" Ltd, "Nova Liniya" JSC, "Epicenter-K" Ltd.

Uzhgorod City Council asks city’s residents and socially responsible businesses to support the campaign and, if possible, begin to reduce the use of polyethylene in everyday life.
