The community of Uzhgorod protects the "Avtomobilist" stadium. The campaign to rescue the only municipal stadium started in Uzhgorod was launched by residents of the city on Uzh, football fans, football players, athletes and just people caring about the sports infrastructure of their native city with continued support of the football website LOBDA.
And it seems that the community did win, "The "Avtomobiist" stadium will be saved from the developer."
This was announced by the acting mayor Victor Shchadey at the commission meeting, which was held last night at the "Avtomibilist" stadium on Peremoha st.
Recall that last year, former city officials granted part of the sport ground of the "Avtomobilist" stadium for a private building. According to the documents, a 15-apartment 4-storey building is to appear here.
According to Victor Kachur, the head of the football federation in Uzhgorod, the "Avtomobilist" stadium is the only municipal sports facility, that is not leased, and is currently assigned to the Sports School № 1. "The developer not only builds the high-rise building close to the stadium, but has already crossed its borders. Therefore, the Football Federation of Transcarpathia and patrons are ready to start fencing the stadium, installing stands, doing sanitary cleaning, repairing the field and equipping at least two running lanes," – he said.
In fact, the developer himself did not show up at the commission meeting.
"We have found out that the developer has taken a piece of land that belongs to the stadium of the Sports School number 1. Therefore, we are preparing a letter to the State Architectural and Construction Inspectorate demanding to halt the construction. The construction blocks the stadium, and it will be impossible to drive up to it. The developer will not steal the sport ground from Uzhgorod residents. We will cancel illegal permits," – the acting mayor Victor Shchadey said.
