The assault on a journalist was re-classified as threat or violence against a journalist

With the intervention of the prosecutor’s office, the criminal proceeding opened on the grounds of hooliganism (Part 1 of Article 299 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine) over the assault on a correspondent of the central television channel in Transcarpathia was re-classified into deliberate infliction of injuries to a journalist in connection with his or her professional activities (Part 2 of Art. 345-1 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine).  This was reported by the press service of the regional prosecutor’s office.

It has been established that on May 16, in an Uzhgorod cinema, there was conflict between visitors and the administration, as a result of which a reporter of the central television channel in Transcarpathia sufferred bodily injuries.

In order to establish all the circumstances of the case and to make a legal decision, the Uzhgorod local prosecutor’s office sent written instructions to the investigating officer of the Uzhgorod police department, who is conducting the pre-trial investigation in this criminal proceeding

Reference: according to Part 2 of Art. 345-1 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine, intentional infliction of bodily injuries to a journalist, his close relatives or family members in connection with his or her professional activities is punishable by restraint of liberty for the term of up to 5 years or imprisonment for the same term.
