The anniversary of the Hungarian Revolution was celebrated in Transcarpathia

Today our neighbors – Hungarians celebrate the 57th anniversary of the revolution and the liberation struggle of 1956. October 23, 1956 in Budapest, 200,000 people came out to protest against the pro-Soviet government regime. The protesters, demanding better living conditions, political and economic reforms, democratic freedoms, seized the building of the radio station, military factories. The uprising spread to many regions of Hungary. The armed conflict began.

On Tuesday, in Uzhgorod there was solemn assembly, which was attended by the Chairman of the Budget Committee of the Regional Council Vasyl Brenzovych, Hungarian diplomats, leaders of the Hungarian national-cultural societies, members of the public who laid flowers at the memorial plaque on the building in Uzhgorod prison in honor of the citizens – participants of historical events in 1956 who were in custody there.

Also, Hungarian diplomats held a reception in Beregovo to mark the anniversary of the Hungarian revolution and the liberation struggle of the Hungarian people in 1956 – the press service of the regional council informed.
