The Ambassador of Austria to Ukraine is visiting Transcarpathia

On Monday, October 10, the head of the Transcarpathian Regional Council Mykhailo Rivis and his first deputy Yosyp Borto met with the Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary Ambassador of Austria to Ukraine Hermine Poppeller, who is visiting Transcarpathian region. 

As noted by the guest, she was struck by the beauty of our land, which is similar in its landscape to her unique homeland. She briefly informed about her activities and the purpose of the visit and said that she wants to learn more about our border land and its opportunities. 

– Transcarpathia is very interesting because it is very close to Vienna. And you successfully use this advantage as a region bordering with the European Union – Ms. Hermine Poppeller said. Therefore, during negotiations, the diplomat was interested in the priorities and challenges of the development of Transcarpathia, the vision of their solution. 

Mykhailo Rivis thanked for the visit and expressed hope that this meeting would lay a solid foundation for revival of historical and cultural ties, exchange of delegations and investment in our region. He stressed that Austria is attractive for its economic and political stability. And it is important for cooperation with our region, which once was a part if Austro-Hungary. Then, he informed the diplomat about the economic potential of the region, its tourist and investment attractiveness, adding that those investors, who are working in Transcarpathia, have, in spite of a difficult current situation, protection and support of the government and feel comfortable here. 

– Today Transcarpathia is attractive for a number of international projects, because we have rich natural resources, excellent tourism potential, unique cultural heritage and highly industrious people, who, unfortunately, have left their families, homes and are working in Europe. We want to do everything in order to give them opportunities to make a living at home and to build Europe in their native land, – the First Deputy Chairman of the Regional Council Yosyp Borto said. 

 Following the meeting, the diplomat thanked for insightful conversation and for warm reception.

– I will try to facilitate the cooperation in the areas that were outlined during our meeting, – the diplomat assured the leadership of the Regional Council.
