The Consul General of the Slovak Republic Janka Burianova began the meeting with an excursion into the history of the neighboring state, which borders with Transcarpathia. In a concise but informative manner, she described the events that took place in what is now Slovakia.
The Slovak National Uprising, also known as the Revolt of 1944 was an armed uprising organized by the Slovak resistance and was directed against the regime of the First Slovak Republic during the Second World War.
It started on August 29, 1944, in Banská Bystrica and covered a large area of Slovakia but was completely crushed on October 28 of that year with the help of the SS and the Wehrmacht troops. However, a guerrilla war against the German and Slovak troops loyal to the regime reminded residents about the past events.
At the meeting, the participants had the opportunity to learn about the history from the stands that were installed in the assembly hall and to a have a nice talk with each other, because such events are closely linked with the history of the two neighboring countries.
