The Western Regional Office of the State Border Service of Ukraine, guarding the border with the European Union and the Republic of Moldova reported a significant increase in passenger and vehicle traffic during the New Year’s and Christmas holidays. Thus, in the period from 1 to 7 of January, over four hundred and twenty thousand people and over one hundred and thirty thousand vehicles crossed the western border, which is 15 percent more than that compared to the same period of 2013. The highest growth was registered on the Ukrainian-Polish border, also there was a significant increase of border traffic at the Ukrainian-Hungarian and Ukrainian-Slovak borders.
Analysts of the regional office say that such trend is typical for this period of the year, as many citizens of Ukraine during this period go to the European Union countries for vacation, and also a considerable number of our compatriots and tourists from Europe travel to Ukraine for holidays.
