Today is the holiday that concludes a long Yuletide cycle. It is believed that on Epiphany, from midnight to midnight, the water acquires curative properties and stores them for a year, healing physical and spiritual illness.
On this day, in all the towns and villages, where there are churches, they bless the water. The water consecrated on Epiphany has long been considered a kind of salvation for many ailments. They give it to seriously ill people to drink, use it to consecrate temples, houses and cattle. The fact that the Epiphany water does not get spoilt, is odorless and can be stored for a year remains a mystery. Some people tend to believe that this is caused by a silver cross, the priest dips into the water during the ceremony. However, this view is wrong because they do not always use a silver cross, sometimes they use a wooden cross or a cross made of some other metal, and the water still remains unspoilt for years.
