Star of David is being set in Uzhgorod near the Philharmonic – the former synagogue

A huge Star of David is being set on the pavement near the building of the Transcarpathian Regional Philharmonic, the Depo.Zakarpattya reports citing the zakarpatpost.net.

The building was built in 1904 by architects Gyula Papp and Szabolcs Ferenc (who also built a synagogue in the capital of Austria). The architects combined in the architectural ensemble Romanticist, Byzantine and Moorish styles. The walls were erected using the materials brought from Italy. One of the most striking details of the building was the central balcony featuring the Star of David in a big circle.

In 1947, the Soviet government decided to hand over the building to the Ministry of Culture for the Philharmonic. All Jewish symbols were removed then. The builders covered the big Star of David with a wall with a round window in the middle.
