The searches were carried out in the town of Irshava and the village of Ilnytsya.
According to the communication department of the Transcarpathian regional police, two residents of Irshava district were notified of being suspected of extortion. During the searches, knuckles were seized from them. Investigation into the matter continues.
"Today, December 26, officers of the Irshava Police Department, together with the fighters of the KORD special police unit, conducted searches at the place of residence of the suspects in the criminal proceedings in the case of extortion (part 2 of Article 189 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine)," – the report reads.
Prior to that, 30 and 50-year-old residents of the village of Imstychevo in Irshava district appealed to the Irshava Police Department. The applicants told the police that some men were demanding from them a sum of EUR 2,500, which they had allegedly stolen from a girl’s bank account in Prague. They were also being threatened with physical violence.
“The extortionists were a 31-year-old resident of Irshava and a 43-year-old resident of the village of Ilnytsya. During a court-ordered search, the police seized from them metal knuckles, which were sent for examination.
The men’s actions constitute a criminal offense under Part 2 of Article 189 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine (Extortion). The men were notified of being suspected. The choice of pre-trial restraint is being decided”, – the police informed.
