Smugglers have resorted to threats to intimidate border guards

Yesterday, smugglers made threats of physical violence to officers of the State Border Guard Service, who have come to reinforce border guard service department "Velyky Bychkiv".

Around midnight, a car drove up to a border guard patrol, that was protecting the section of the border near the village of Luh in Rakhiv district. Five unknown persons came out of the car. The man threatened a soldier with physical violence and destruction of his personal property. One of the young men tore off the license plate of the border guards’ car. In order to stop the illegal actions of the unknown men, the border guard made a warning shot in the air and called back up, thus made it clear to the offenders that their aggressive actions will not be ignored by law enforcement. Three offenders were detained by border guards, the other two escaped in the car, in which they had arrived.

The report of the detection of a criminal offense under Art. 345 of the Criminal Code "Threats or violence against a law enforcement officer" was made. A report on administrative violation was drawn up against one of the detainees under Art.185-10 "Malicious disobedience to lawful order or request of a representative of the State Border Guard Service of Ukraine." The offenders will be judged in court. Currently, the measures to identify other persons, who threatened the border guards, are being taken.
