Today, at the checkpoint "Dyakove" border guards of the Mukachevo Detachment in conjunction with the customs officers and representatives of the Security Service of Ukraine prevented an attempt of illegal cross-border transportation of a large batch of tobacco products. This was announced by the press service of the Mukachevo border guard detachment.
The attention of law enforcement officers was caught by a car "Mercedes Vito" with Russian diplomatic license plates. Inside the car, there were two persons who were carrying diplomatic passports of Mongolia. During the customs control of this car, a sniffer dog trained to detect tobacco gave a signal. Therefore, border guards decided to conduct a thorough inspection of the diplomats’ vehicle. During the inspection, the suspicions of border guards were confirmed – the diplomats’ minibus was packed with tobacco products.
Currently, the amount of tobacco products and the circumstances of the offense are being established.
Recall that in late May Transcarpathian customs officers detained another "diplomatic contraband" which was widely publicized.
