Slovakia followed Hungary’s example

On May 1, in neighboring Slovakia the amendments to the law "On the staying of foreigners", which primarily relate to people who have a certificate of a foreign Slovak, will come into force.  Thus, this category of people will be able to enjoy a simplified procedure for obtaining a permit for permanent or temporary residence in the Slovak Republic.

The amendments provide that the police stations will be issuing 5 years residence permits to persons who have a certificate of a foreign Slovak. Also, the requirements for documents confirming the availability of housing and a certificate of good conduct in Slovakia have been canceled for foreign Slovaks. Foreign Slovaks have to provide health insurance and health certificate only in a month after receiving a permit for five-year residence in an EU country.

Today in Transcarpathia there are more than six thousand people who have the status of foreign Slovaks.
