December 13, 2014 in the city of Uzhgorod, in the Puppet Theater, there was the traditional, 17th regional celebration called "Slovak betlehem – 2014", which, like all the previous ones, was organized by the regional cultural and educational organization "Matica Slovenska" in Transcarpathia. During this celebration, traditionally, the contest in three categories was held: "Best Slovak betlehem", "Best group of Slovak carolers" and "Best group performing theatrical Nativity play in the Slovak language."
This year the festival was attended by 9 groups from different settlements of Transcarpathia densely populated by Slovaks – the town of Serednye, the village of Antalovtsi, the village of Storozhnytsya in Uzhgorod district, the village of Kolchino (Fridyeshovo) in Mukachevo district, the town of V.Berezny and the city of Uzhgorod.
Before the holiday, the Consul General of the Slovak Republic in the city of Uzhgorod Mrs. Janka Burjanova, representatives of the Ministry of Education of Slovakia and the head of the "Matica Slovenska" in Transcarpathia Mr. Joseph Haynish adrressed the audience with formal greetings.
The participants of the holiday were awarded certificates and souvenirs. At the end, all participants performed Slovak carol "Silent Night" by F.Gruber.
