10 million TB patients are registered every year in the world, one third of these cases are fatal. In Ukraine tuberculosis was declared as epidemic since 1995. Every hour four Ukrainians get infected with tuberculosis and every hour one person dies because of this dangerous disease.
Thirty two patronage Red Cross Society nurses, who have been interning under the program ‘Medical and social support and creation of the favorable disposition to TB treatment’, which is supported by the Fund for Development of Ukraine studied how to work with patients, who continue their treatment at home for three days.
Besides the general knowledge about the disease itself and methods of its treatment, nurses passed the profound psychological preparation.
