Yesterday, the fourth exhibition of graphics opened in the "Uzhgorod" gallery. Due to the revolutionary events and victims, Transcarpathian artists in solidarity with the Maidan did not organize the official opening.
The head of the graphics section Odarka Dolhosh-Sopko said:
"We did not hold official opening of the exhibition, but only informed that it would run from February 26 to March 6. Honestly, now we can’t think about the exhibition. This year, few young people took part in it, therefore we did not hold the competition for the best work.Next year, we hope, there will be what to choose from. After all, we focus on the youth," – the head of the section said.
Member of the Transcarpathian National Union of Artists of Ukraine Vasyl Skakandiy added: "Every opening of the exhibition is a celebration. And in the current situation in the country, there is nothing to celebrate… "
Teacher of the Transcarpathian Art Institute, a member of the National Union of Artists of Ukraine in Transcarpathia Roman Pylyp noted that in our region art has long been as if for art itself. Although the newly opened exhibition is not shocking, and this year it mostly features landscapes and still lifes, some works still are influenced by revolution (for example, in the work, which shows two red carnations). "There is a need for aesthetics, equality and peace in the society. Each of the artists decide for themselves whether they will depict events from the Maidan – some want to cry out, others want to be silent. Now the main thing is not to "escalate". Does the revolution affect art? For each in its own way. It motivated me somewhat, I released my energy. Art helped me cope with the stress associated with the events of the Maidan."
