‘We found out that the girl didn’t have a computer at home. She came to her older relative to surf the Internet, said today, April 24, the head of Ministry of Internal Affairs of Ukraine in Transcarpathian region, Major General of police Viktor Rusin. – She wasn’t in the social network ‘VKontakte’. The girl’s classmates claim that they had never seen her page on the network and they had never contacted with her there. The information that she was in a social network is not true’.
These days they are going to decide if it is a criminal case or not. Victor Rusin says it will probably not happen: ‘There is no evidence that she had been driven to commit suicide by the Internet community’.
We remind that on March 24, in Tyachiv region a 14-year old schoolgirl hanged herself at home. According to her mother, the girl committed suicide because of bullying of her peers in a social online network ‘VKontakte’.
However, last Friday, April 20, the regional prosecutor Anatoly Petrunya said at the press conference that ‘Tyachiv police department refused to begin criminal proceedings, while at the same time, having studied the materials it was found that the check was carried out superficially, in particular, not all the teachers and peers of the girl were interviewed. For this reason an order to dismiss a criminal case is canceled and inspection is being carried out. The results will be used to decide whether to take criminal proceedings.’
As for the destroyed web page, which according to the explanations of some of the girl’s classmates contained photos and comments which humiliated the girl, according to Petrunya, experts say it can be restored, but only in the case if the criminal case is opened.
