Safety is one of the most important aspects when organizing any trip. This is especially true for active recreation, including hiking in the mountains. Otherwise, admiring the scenic views and nature enjoyment can turn into a hospital stay, or even death. The tragic winter season in Transcarpathia is a proof of that.
It is worth remembering that a tourist has not only rights, but also responsibilities.
So, a few simple tips on how to behave during outdoor recreation.
First of all, remember that nature must be protected, so that future generations could enjoy it too. So: do not chop living trees for firewood. Do not tear off branches and do not damage bark, do not make noise, do not make fire in the places not suitable for it, do not bother the animals, do not leave garbage in the woods. Completely extinguish the bonfire, because one spark can cause a big forest fire.
As for hiking, do not go alone, but go in a group with an experienced guide. Be sure to take appropriate clothing and equipment. In case of health problems, immediately notify the group guide. Have the phone number for rescue services, such as the number of the Mountain Search and Rescue Unit in Transcarpathian region: +38 (0312) 67-14-13.
Recreation on the water is worth special mention. Do not go into the water in a state of intoxication, especially if you do not know it well. Swim in places suitable for that, and do not stay in the water for more than 10-15 minutes.
These are not all the rules that should be observed during recreation, but the most important thing is to be aware and careful all the time, then you will have a positive and joyful holiday.
