The first Roma school in Europe was opened in Uzhgorod 90 years ago. It was built in December 1926 for Roma and by Roma. Thus, grandfather of Julietta Adam, who now works as a cleaner here, built this place. And every evening after work, she and several other adult Roma takes books and studies under a special crash course for adults.
Recently, in addition to 157 Roma children, adults began studying in the school. The problem of illiteracy among adult Roma population is very urgent and so the school started an experiment – to educate adults. All willing people can complete a crash programme of school curriculum here.
