Today, November 29, the annual Forum of the Regional Initiatives "Ekopolyana 2018" dedicated to the formation of the public health system in Ukraine started in the village of Polyana in Transcarpathian region.
The Forum was attended by representatives of the scientific community from all over the country, heads of local self-government bodies, public organizations and societies. People’s Deputy of Ukraine Robert Horvat also joined the Forum.
During a speech at one of the Forum panels, Robert Horvat drew attention to the inextricable link between public health and the environment in which Ukrainians live today. "The issue (of public health – ed.) is undoubtedly urgent and needs attention. Especially in the context of the environmental problems that now have to be solved in Transcarpathia and Ukraine as a whole. After all, without a safe environment, there can be no effective public health system," – Robert Horvat said.
In addition, the MP mentioned the last year’s Forum in Polyana, during which they began working on solving one of the most important environmental issues in Transcarpathia – catastrophic pollution of the Tisa river with sewage and other hazardous waste. Then, in particular, the Regional Association of Local Self-Government Bodies "Transcarpathia – For Clean Environment" was established and the Program "Preservation of the Tisa River Valley Ecosystem in the Border Territory" was developed.
The MP said that during the current Forum, they agreed with the representatives of the scientific community and the Regional Association "Transcarpathia – For Clean Environment" to intensify the work on ensuring the balanced management of waste. "In particular, in the area of improving the domestic legislation that regulates this industry. Thus, optimal conditions for the protection of the environment will be created at the legislative level in Ukraine," – Robert Horvat said.
