The anniversary XXV Fencing Championship of Ukraine continues in Lviv. On 1 and 2 of June, epee fencers were competing in Universal Sports Complex of Lviv State University of Physical Culture. Traditionally, the largest number of athletes participated in this type of the competition.
It should be noted that all members of the national team of Ukraine took part in the Championship of Ukraine. However, it happened so that Anatoliy Herey (Uzhgorod), Bogdan Nikishin (Dnipro), Dmytro Karyuchenko and Maxim Khvorost (Kharkiv) did not compete for medals in individual championship. Thus, Herey and Khvorost showed the best results (in the semifinals they conceded to Kyiv athletes).
"In Lviv, I finished 7th. I beat two strong opponents, but did not have enough "fuel" for the third one – I lost one stab 15:14…", – Anatoliy Herey says.
As for the other Transcarpathian athletes, Artem Matevosov showed the best result reaching 1/8 final. Ivan-Serhiy Horestky was stopped at 1/16, Vladislav Kovalenko, Jan Baran and Viktor Krylov – at 1/32.
In the team competition, the men’s team of Transcarpathia took the 7th place out of 15 teams.
Recall that earlier Transcarpathian women’s foil team brought "bronze" awards from the Championship.
