"For the first time in 84 years, turnstiles have been installed in the building of the current Transcarpathian Regional State Administration – probably as a symbol of the openness of the new government. Both the lobby space and the finishing materials of the unique monument of interwar modernism have been ruined.
This building was built for the people, during the time of the most democratic government in Europe. It has always been open to the public, even during the Soviet era. And right now, with the arrival of the new governor of independent Ukraine, by destroying authentic surfaces, the government becomes closed to the people.
A few months ago, this building hosted concerts and exhibitions in the atrium, the building was welcoming to visitors and open to tourists. Now it looks like a military facility – only barbed wire and guards with machine guns are missing.
