Rating of Transcarpathian education: the most incompetent students are in Hungarian schools

The Department of Education and Science, Youth and Sport of the Regional State Administration conducted the ranking evaluation of the performance of secondary educational establishments.  The rating was conducted under the provisions on the national system for rating evaluation of secondary schools. The rating evaluation system includes the rating of secondary schools based on external evaluation of their performance and the rating of secondary schools based on internal monitoring of their performance.

Among the criteria for school evaluation are availability of teaching staff, material resources, the state of record keeping. The main criteria is students’ achievements in testing, participation in competitions and small academies. Schools with Hungarian language of teaching have the worst results in the Transcarpathian school ranking.

Thus, in Uzhgorod, the Hungarian high school ranks 13th among 22 schools, the school № 10 named after Doiko Gabor – 19th. In Mukachevo, the only school with Hungarian language teaching number 3 named after F. Rakoczy ranks 15th of 17 schools.  In Beregovo, the situation is no better. In three out of ten schools the teaching is conducted exclusively in Hungarian. The school number 4 ranked 4th, the school number 9 – 8th, the school number 7 – 9th.

In terms of districts, in Beregovo, Vynogradiv and Mukachevo districts, schools with Hungarian language teaching close the school evaluation ratings.
