Public journalism: trucks block the way to residential premises (PHOTOS)

For how long will trucks in Uzhgorod be blocking the streets? This question was raised in the social network by Oleksandr Volosyansky.

"Yesterday, July 5, 2013, after 17:30, near the so-called "Drunk Market", vehicular traffic from the intersection of Mynaiska-Hrushevsky-Borodin to the intersection of Borodin-Dekabristy was blocked for about half an hour by two heavy trucks" – the author writes, quoting local residents who claim that this situation happens repeatedly.

"Unfortunately, the reaction of the traffic police, given the frequency of such violations, is basically non-existent.And that is despite the additional temporary traffic restrictions for trucks weighing over 24 tons with axle load of more than 7 tons from 10.00 to 22.00 at more than 28 ˚ C air temperature, legally introduced on the territory of Ukraine, as reported yesterday by the press service of the Traffic Police Department of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Ukraine on their official website (http://www.sai.gov.ua/ua/news/1/2513.htm) ", – the author noted and also pointed out the inaction of local authorities, which do not attempt to resolve issues of heavy vehicle traffic on the roads of the city: "The question is if there is anyone in this city who is responsible for this mess, or the interests of some private carriers and officials, who allow it, stand above the lawful rights of passenger transport drivers to economic and convenient traffic conditions, the ensuring of which is one of the primary responsibilities of local authorities in accordance with Article 19 of the Law of Ukraine "On the highways."

In addition to defining the problem, O.Volosyansky offers ways to solve it: "Even if it so difficult to completely restrict the access of heavy vehicles into the city, is it really hard to restrict their traffic in the city at least during business hours from 8:00 to 19:00?They also must consider widening of streets with heavy traffic rather than granting land beside them for placement of kiosks."
