Prosecutors report that the number of cases and volume of illegal logging in Transcarpathia has decreased

Due to the work of prosecutors of the region and the use of authority to coordinate the work of the executive power, bodies of state control and law enforcement agencies in the field of ​​forest resources protection, the tendency to reduction of the number of cases and volume of illegal logging is observed in the region, namely by 33% compared to the same period in 2011. 
Scince the beginning of the year the bodies of regional prosecutor’s office have instituted 13 criminal cases in the field of forest resources protection, 12 of which have already been forwarded to court. All of them concern the abuse of power and negligence of duties by employees of state forest protection service that led to offenders committing illegal logging, which caused losses to the state in the amount of more than 2 million hryvnias. 61 applications for taking measures have been considered, 8 prosecutor’s protests have been sustained. The bodies of regional prosecutor’s office executed three reports on corruption offenses which have already been considered by the court. In response to the prosecutor’s acts, 526 officials of the executive authorities and local self-government have been brought to justice, including 520 – of the bodies of state control. Over 361,000 UAH have already been refunded to the budget. As a result of civil actions taken by the regional prosecutor’s office during the current year, 56 lawsuits for compensation of damages caused by violation of environmental legislation in the field of forest resources protection have been filed to the court totaling in more than 2.4 million hryvnias, – informed the press service of the Prosecutor of the Transcarpathian region .
