Prosecutors protect children’s rights

Regional prosecution authorities conducted checks to verify compliance with the legislation on children’s rights to health and rest, during which they found numerous violations.

According to the head of the department for protection rights and freedoms of children of the Prosecutor’s office of Transcarpathian region Olesya Bokoch, "It was found out that most children were provided not with rehabilitation, but with holidays at school camps and boarding schools. Thus, during the current year, 10,923 children rested in non-urban residential establishments, 1026 – in institutions of stationary type, 77,461 – in schools with day care, 77,461 – in tent camps."

This year, authorities and local governments have not paid enough attention to rehabilitation of disabled children. In particular, out of 2,073 children needing the rehabilitation, only 1384 disabled children were able to improve their health this summer.

Prosecutors of Uzhgorod and Mukachevo found evidence of senior officials of city councils improperly executing the documents for trips to health facilities "Artek" and "Moloda Hvardiya" (there is no information about the disease, improper registration of certificates to send children for rehabilitation and provision of vouchers to minors who live in other cities).

"Also we found violations concerning the organization of children’s rehabilitation, their proper nutrition and fortification, and the provision of health services in children’s centers.Regarding the found violations, the prosecution made orders to eliminate violations of law and to bring perpetrators to justice" – the prosecutor concluded.
