Prosecutors appeal for strict restraint

The persons involved in the scandal, which continues in Uzhgorod, still may be put into custody. This was reported from the regional prosecutor’s office.

As we reported, today, February 7, the Court of Appeal in Transcarpathian region changed the pretrial restraint against one of the suspects in the high-profile criminal proceeding on corruption schemes in Uzhgorod city council, thus partly uphelding the appeal of Transcarpathian regional prosecutors.

Thus, the court imposed on the mediator, who was arrested while receiving 20,000 UAH bribe, a pretrial restraint in the form of detention until March 24, 2017 with the possibility of bail in the amount of 64,000 UAH instead of 40,000 UAH as imposed by Uzhgorod City and District Court. In turn, the prosecutors insisted on bail in the amount of 320,000 UAH.

Also, another prosecutors’ appeal was considered – to change the pretrial restraint against the suspected deputy of Uzhgorod City Council. (Stanislav Ponomarev, who also paid the first bail and is on the outside).

The Court of Appeal in Transcarpathian region imposed on him a pretrial restraint in the form of detention and increased the amount of bail to 240,000 UAH.

Today, they should also consider another prosecutors’ appeal on pretrial restraint against the Deputy Mayor of Uzhgorod Istvan Tsap.

The prosecutors will demand to impose on the suspect a pretrial restraint in the form of detention with the possibility of bail in the amount of 800,000 UAH.

As you know, he is already under night house arrest until the end of March, but, as we see, the prosecution appeals for stricter sanctions.
