The presentation of the book "Architecture of Uzhgorod. Austro-Hungarian Period. 1867–1918" will take place on December 5, at 5:00 pm, in the cafe-museum "Pid zamkom".
The bilingual publication in Ukrainian and Hungarian contains research materials that the researchers of architectural history Oleg Olashin and Lina Degtyareva were working on for two years. In addition to the history and description of the city’s 23 key buildings, the album contains sections on styles that were relevant in the empire at that time and biographies of the architects. The objects are listed in the book according to the map, so tourists can use the album as a guide.
The facts, that were found in archives, libraries, specialized publications, are supplemented by the authors’ observations and analysis. Some discoveries suprised the authors, so no doubt Uzhgorod residents will find new information for themselves.
The album contains both old pictures, drawings, plans, and modern photos. The comparison allows you to see the changes that have affected the city at different stages of its development.
The professional translation of the publication into Hungarian was done by architect Petro Szarvas, who is also the author of the preface.
The project was curated by Ildiko Molnar, and the publication was printed with the support of the Gabor Betlen Fund (Hungary).
