Prayer for Ukraine on the Independence Day in Uzhgorod (PHOTOS)

Today, August 24, the regional center of Transcarpathia traditionally was the first city of Ukraine to begin the celebration of the Independence Day, the press service of the Regional State Administration informs. For the fifth consecutive year, Uzhgorod begins celebration of the birthday of our state with joint "Prayer for Ukraine". This year, the patriotic event initiated by the Honored Academic Transcarpathian Folk Choir took place on Poshtova Square. Several hundred city residents, including children, officials of Transcarpathia and Uzhgorod, clerics from different confessions took part in the joint prayer, which was recited in ten languages ​​of the world. In addition, the choir performed patriotic poetry by Volodymyr Sosyura, Vasyl Symonenko and Transcarpathian authors. – The main theme of this year’s Prayer is love, love for Ukraine, for the native land, – the head of the choir, Natalia Petiy-Potapchuk said. – That is why, fitting poetic works, song repertoire were chosen. Love for the Motherland, respect for one another is what brings peace.     At 6.36, when the sun rose above the city, all participants sang the State Anthem of Ukraine. Recall that for the first time, "Prayer for Ukraine" was held in Uzhgorod in 2014, then the event was held on the banks of the Uzh river. Subsequently, the event would take place every time in different location, in particular on the Pedestrian Bridge, in the Uzhgorod castle, Narodna Square…
