The President of Ukraine Poroshenko ordered the Chief of General Staff of Armed Forces of Ukraine to cease fire in the Donbas, starting at 18:00, September 5.
This is said in his statement posted on the website of the President.
"Based on the appeal of the Russian President Vladimir Putin to the leaders of illegal armed groups in the Donbas to cease fire, signing of the protocol at the meeting of the Trilateral contact group on the implementation of the Peace Plan of the President of Ukraine, I give order to the Chief of the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine to cease fire, starting from 18:00, September 5" – it reads.
"I also commend the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine to ensure together with the OSCE effective international control over the observance of the cease-fire that must be exclusively bilateral in nature," – Poroshenko said.
Poroshenko said that his talks in Brussels and Minsk "demonstrated a great demand for peaceful political and diplomatic settlement of the conflict in the Donbas" and that similar sentiments prevailed during meetings with world leaders at the NATO summit in Wales.
On September 5, in Minsk the Contact Group with the participation of Ukraine, the so-called "People’s Republic of Donetsk" and "People’s Republic of Luhansk" and the OSCE signed the protocol om ceasefire in the Donbas starting from 18:00 on the same day.
At the same time, the leader of the militants of the so-called "People’s Republic of Luhansk" Igor Plotnytsky said: "We are ready to stop the fire from two sides starting from 18:00."
"But that does not mean that the policy of separation (from Ukraine) will change. This is a necessary measure to stop the bloodshed," – he said in Minsk, as cited by the "Interfax-Ukraine".
