We could not ignore one of the major highlights of this week in Transcarpathia.
Following the early spring crocuses and snowdrops, April sakuras and magnolias, the end of May brought local residents and tourists a new fabulous flower location: a poppy field blossomed in Onokivtsi village council – on the way from Uzhgorod to Nevytske. The field became a place for pilgrimage. Numerous photos among the poppies were posted in social networks, and it went on until yesterday. But on May 30, it was reported that they had begun mowing the field, apparently at the request of the owner of the land. The village council did not comment on that, while visitors of the "poppy valley" complained and called the initiators of the mowing vandals and asked to leave the field be for at least a few more days.
As of May 31, a band still remains on the field, however, rain also made some adjustments.
Meanwhile, experts began to comment on the story of the poppy field. Thus, they say that nobody sown the poppies – they grew on the field intended for pasture and other agricultural needs. Moreover, the biologist says that mowing will not hurt the poppies.
So, next year, the poppy field may become another flower attraction of Transcarpathia… For now, enjoy the photographs!
